Arsenal, Liverpool handed huge £83m Barcelona boost in Alexander Isak pursuit?

Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly gained a significant advantage in their pursuit of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.

Currently, the Gunners are facing challenges due to the absence of several key attacking players. However, a moment of brilliance from a natural midfielder led them to victory on Saturday afternoon.

With Raheem Sterling struggling to make an impact at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City, Spaniard Mikel Merino came off the bench and scored two crucial goals, securing the win for Mikel Arteta's side.

As a result, Arsenal remains in second place in the Premier League standings as the season approaches its climax, trailing league leaders Liverpool by seven points.

To contend for the title, Arsenal will need to adapt without several offensive options, including Kai Havertz, who is expected to miss the rest of the campaign.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, a potential suitor in the race for Newcastle ace Isak has suffered a blow to their hopes of securing the talent.

The report claims that Barcelona are not currently in the financial position to execute a permanent swoop for the super Swede during the summer transfer window.

It is understood that Champions League-chasing Newcastle are demanding in excess of £83m for Isak - a monetary landscape that the Catalan club cannot compete in.

It is believed that the 25-year-old is ready to make the next step in his career, with a number of elite Premier League clubs keen on the player.

Isak is supposedly 'very interested' in the prospect of joining Arne Slot's Liverpool ahead of the 2025-26 term, with the Reds currently the standout team in England and on the continental stage.

Isak is currently on course for his most productive season in the Premier League, having netted a staggering 17 goals across 23 matches so far.

The Sweden international therefore only trails Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (23), Man City monster Erling Haaland (19) and Chris Wood (18) of Nottingham Forest in the race for the division's Golden Boot.

There is no doubt that Isak is deserving of a spot on the Champions League scene next term, a luxury that Eddie Howe's side might not be able to provide.
